I can think of a few different ways this could work. One would be to have a console machine that you can plop down and connect with power lines to a bunch of machines. You would isolate that grid to limit the group of machines you're configuring. Once you've done the configuration, deconstruct your console and connect your isolated grid to your main grid. Or groups of machines would be connected with a new cable type, but still using the power poles, which would be changed to support the same number of data connections as power connections. That way there's no need to isolate the group you want to configure from the rest of the power grid.

Another would be to plop down the console somewhere more permanent (or include it in the hub), and the player can create groups there and define configurations for each group. Then, using a separate tool in a hand slot, the player can just select an existing group and then click on machines to apply that group's config.

Great idea, like the factorio game? where you can see what's being used, created and be able to turn machines on at a higher tier, but for as you say, set groups, not the whole thing (unless you include them all)
