Storage containers are great as buffers, and as overflow/endpoint pools. But There are 2 other cases I would like to see.

"Hold" toggle. Set container to fill first, and only supply overflow to the exit. This enables an in-line depot for storing frequently used goods without adding splitters and spaghet.

"Round-Robin" push pattern. Select one (or n) item of each, in a rotating fashion to supply to the exit. This would help manage flow control on multi-item belts & splitters.

I'd like to be able to set a minimum level that conveyors cannot remove below and a maximum level that conveyors cannot exceed. This would allow you to not only implement your 'Hold' idea, but set the number of items that will be 'Held'.

August 28th update: We've removed downvotes! One major reason is because we don't want to discourage folks from posting legitimate suggestions / reports / questions with fear of being mass downvoted (which has been happening a LOT). So we now allow you to upvote what you like, or ignore what you don't. Points have also been adjusted to account for this change.
Please use the search function before posting a new question and upvote existing ones to bring more attention to them, It will help us a lot. <3
