While crafting items manually, smaller stack should be used first while now it seems that it takes the last stack from the inventory and uses it first

I like the ordered way from last slot to the first. This allows me to mix materials in a container and get them to the conveyer belt in the order I have chosen.

I use this to automate my "empty my pockets" machinery. I dump thing in the storage in the order I want them to come out and alternate the constructor recipe when production changes.

Also sorting resolves this automatically, since sort leaves the smallest stacks towards the end of inventory.

By design anything that takes from an inventory, be it an automated crafter, a conveyor or manual crafting will take from the last available slot in the inventory first, not the smallest. How you had a smaller slot to the left of a bigger one is a mystery to me as the game fills top left to bottom right and extracts in the opposite direction, but, an easy fix for this is to simply click the sort button.
