Color gun won't change color?

Question

So I want to change the color of my factory.  I want something other then the default yellow or blue.  So I put in the cartridge and I right click the color gun with it in my hand but nothing happens?  Am I missing something?

Equip the gun in your hand, Have colour cartridges in your inventory (dont do anything with them)

Right click anywhere on the screen while holding the gun

A new menu will pop up, click on the colour you want, click  on change colour at the bottom

if you dont like any of the colours you can edit them

I think you have to press "R" to reload the gun. If you edit the pallet on the top left, the entire factory will change and you wont have to use a single cart.
