So, for the past day I've spent troubleshooting connection issues with my friend, trying to connect via multiplayer. My friend was hosting with Moderate NAT.

My Network setup- 5G Huawei modem H112-370 using Vodafone cellular + TP-Link ARCHER-C7 v2 Running DDWRT in AP Mode.

My network mode - Strict.

To start off the game would not connect, it would time out after 60 secs.  We even went as far as using Wireshark and my friend making sure all ports were open. I could see it was authenticating but still wouldn't connect.

Next, we tried Hamachi, this would connect but every time the game loaded, I would get disconnected after about 1minute, similar to what other users have reported before.

So more digging, due to the where I live the best internet option is 5G from Vodafone, 200-300mb download which works quite well, but after reading reports of using having issues with online gaming I started looking into CGNat issues . Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT), means that you don't get your own public IP address but share it with other users. So you can't be uniquely id'ed on the Net & therefore your LAN cannot be addressed from outside for unsolicited accesses.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I went ahead and purchased a VPN from a well-known provider, and to my amazement, it went from a Strict NAT to Moderate and instantly connected.

I’ve just spent the past 6hrs building with not disconnects or lag.

Once they have dedicated servers working no one will have to do any of this. We'll just connect and everything will work perfectly....... in theory.

To be more accurate, dedicated servers will solve this problem for some people.
Not everyone will use a dedicated server.
I think we'll still have the current player-to-player connection option alongside the option to have a dedicated server.
Dedicated servers won't be hosted by Coffeestain Studios, meaning we'd have to purchase them as players.
Not everyone will want to use those services meaning it's very likely the existing option for multiplayer will keep existing alongside dedicated servers.

No one ever said anything about purchasing anything. No one has to ever pay to run any dedicated server for any game. We're all welcome to just run them on our own computers at home on another computer, host it, map ports, and then let our friends and us connect for free. I don't know what actually will happen with the future of the game but from the way I understood the youtube video they intend to completely change how multiplayer works once we have dedicated servers. Which could be read as servers being the only way to connect. If you watch some of their youtube videos it's literally a coding nightmare to try and synchronize everything for the current version of multiplayer and they have been trying very hard to make it work correctly but in the end it just doesn't, currently. It's very buggy and laggy and breaks most of the time and in general just doesn't work right now. I would imagine they would likely completely abandon the current version of multiplayer once they have servers working.

true, you could host them yourself for free, I didnt take that into consideration.

I guess we'll find out if you can run a dedicated server on the same PC you play on at that same time. If not, we would still require the existing multiplayer to be available for those without separate hardware or the financial capacity to rent/ buy a dedicated server.

Even if you can that's generally not advisable (for any game, not just satisfactory) and will usually make gaming on that computer rather slow and the system run poorly. Dedicated servers (As per their name) are supposed to be run on a separate computer completely dedicated to the server task only.

I have a similar problem, i played around 22h with a friend.

But if we start the game, the client gets disconnected after 1-2min with a  "Outgoing reliable buffer overflow".

Singleplayer works fine, but impossible in coop
