I Understand that balancing the game is hard but it would make sense for the character to own a toolbelt.
General idea is that instead of one slot you would get 2 or 3 (Maybe expandable with hub Upgrades?) and you would be able to switch between the tools by scrolling. Like any Shooter or building Game it would be nice to use my intuition to swap from Weapon to healing or a scanner opposed to having to open a menu and drag an item around.
I think it could greatly add to the gameplay value without destroying the immersion. and having ony two or three items would also limit the amount of items you can "quick switch" so switching to a Beacon, food or other weapon would still require you to open the menu.
